The Automation of Construction Workflows

The Automation of Construction Workflows

· By Mansa Muhammad

Procore is moving beyond simple data storage to active execution. By integrating Datagrid Intelligence into its platform, the company is transitioning from a system of record to an agentic AI environment capable of performing tasks in the background as reported by Commercial Observer.

The acquisition of Datagrid allows Procore to introduce "actions" and "triggers" designed to coordinate workflows and respond to project events automatically. This expansion targets high-friction construction processes, specifically submittals, requests for information, contract reviews, and searches across drawings and specifications.

This shift represents a fundamental change in how construction professionals interact with software. Thiago da Costa, senior vice president of AI and data at Procore, notes that the majority of general contractors use the platform to build and execute projects. The objective is to eliminate repetitive manual work that requires complex thinking from engineers and project managers.

The utility of agentic AI lies in its ability to operate without constant user supervision. A user can assign a task and return later to find the work completed. In an industry where decisions impact financial, labor, cost, and schedule outcomes, removing the friction of manual cross-referencing is the primary driver for this integration.

For construction firms, the value is not in the existence of AI, but in its placement. Because the majority of builders already make their daily decisions within Procore, bringing these capabilities directly into the existing environment minimizes the need for new, fragmented tools. The focus has shifted from merely documenting what happened to automating the processes that drive a project forward.

Consider whether your current software stack is merely a repository for historical data or an active participant in your project's execution.
