Bitcoin's Iran Rally Enters a 60-Day Test as Oil Shock Fears Shift to the Fed
Bitcoin's recent price movement reflects a shift in macro risk as the market reacts to a new framework for US-Iran negotiations. According to reports on the shifting energy-market landscape, the US and Iran intend to begin talks with a memorandum of understanding (MOU), triggering a 60-day window to resolve nuclear terms and sanctions relief.
The market reacted to the MOU itself, before the harder terms of any deal were settled. This framework reduced fears regarding disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, which carried about 20% of global oil and petroleum product consumption and more than a quarter of global seaborne oil trade in 2024 and early 2025. As traders priced in the potential for renewed Iranian oil exports, Brent crude fell about 5% to $78.96, and WTI settled at $76.05.
This movement in energy prices provided a temporary macro backdrop for Bitcoin. The removal of a clear tail risk—the threat of a sudden energy shock—drives the relief trade. The MOU also allows Iran to begin selling oil and fuel under newly issued waivers, which could add near-term supply.
However, the stability of this rally depends on the outcome of the 60-day negotiation period. While the MOU establishes a planning phase, the second phase of negotiations will tackle the nuclear question and the schedule for lifting sanctions. These are the primary drivers for Iran's long-term oil access and economic reintegration. Furthermore, a proposed $300 billion reconstruction fund remains contingent on a final deal.
The current market position is fragile. While the MOU eases immediate fears, the lack of a final agreement leaves significant variables unresolved. Uncertainty regarding verification, export, and sanctions details remains. If negotiators fail to reach terms within the 60-day window, the relief trade could reverse.
Watch the progress of the 60-day negotiation window to determine if the reduction in energy-related tail risks becomes a permanent feature of the macro environment.
